School District Maps
What is a School District Map?
A school district map should show the areas included within the entire school district as well as the public schools that are part of it. A school district map may also include the specific school attendance zones for each school. The attendance zones show the areas around the households associated each school—in other words, where the residents’ children go to public elementary, middle and high school. School attendance zones are generally determined by local school boards and are used to distribute and balance the student population with available classroom space and resources.
Where do you find School District Maps?
Many state or local school districts provide their own school district maps. However the quality and availability of this data is dependent on the local school district. In some cases, the information is available online, however, the map formats, the level of detail and currency of data can vary.
For many smaller school districts, information may only be available at the district office and only in paper format. Many district sites suggest calling their office directly with the home address of the child attending school and they can tell you know which school that child would attend. If you are have just relocated to an area or are looking to move to a new area, finding out which specific schools are related to property locations may require extensive research.
